Renters’ Warden: Mr Thomas L Williams.

Extension

Two resolutions were passed at the Vestry Meeting held on 29th September 1858:

“That owing to the increase of population in this neighbourhood the want of Church accommodation has become very seriously felt and ... steps should be taken immediately to meet the deficiency”.

“That the proposal to enlarge St Anne's Church Sale by extending the chancel as in the plan now laid before this meeting be sanctioned and adopted”.

The following extracts are taken from the St Anne's Church, Sale, 'Minute Book' - and give details of the early Vestry Meetings.

7th November 1856 Church Consecrated

Architect: Hayley, Son & Co.

11th December 1856 Vestry Meeting

Vicar: Rev JJ Cort.
Vicar’s Warden: Mr William King.
Renters’ Warden: Mr Thomas L Williams.

13th April 1857 Vestry Meeting

Vicar’s Warden: Mr William King.
Renters’ Warden: Mr Thomas L Williams.

5th April 1858 Vestry Meeting

Vicar’s Warden: Mr William King.
Renters’ Warden: Mr Alfred Watkin.

Vicar asked opinion, “with regard to the chanting of the Psalms in the evensong, it was unanimously agreed that it should be continued for the next 12 months”.

Expenses: “... raised by charge of 1/- per sitting per quarter on those letting at 1 Guinea each and 6d per sitting per quarter on those that let at 7 shillings each”.

29th September 1858 Vestry Meeting

Two Resolutions:

1 “That owing to the increase of population in this neighbourhood the want of Church accommodation has become very seriously felt and that it is the opinion of this meeting that some steps should be taken immediately to meet the deficiency”. Unanimous.

2 “That the proposal to enlarge St Anne's Church Sale by extending the chancel as in the plan now laid before this meeting be sanctioned and adopted”. Carried.

Note: The word “unanimous” has been struck through.
