At the Vestry Meeting held on 5th October 1863, "... for consideration of proposed plan of enlarging the Church ..." it was proposed, “That this meeting rescinds the second resolution of the Vestry of 10 September and approves of the plan of only carrying out the south wall of the nave as far as the transept and extending the Gallery”.

Choir

At the Vestry Meeting held on 18th April 1865, “A vote of thanks was moved ... to the members of the voluntary choir with a request that the Choir Master confine himself to simple church music”!

9th April 1860 Vestry Meeting

“... Proposed … that the rate of 1/- per quarter on all seats let at 21/- and 14/- per year and [also] those let at 7/- per year”.

21st April 1862 Vestry Meeting

Renters’ Warden: Mr RB Lee.

7th April 1863 Vestry Meeting

10th September 1863 Vestry Meeting

“… for the purpose of considering the means to be adopted for increasing the church accommodation”.

1 “That in consequence of the great and pressing want of additional church accommodation in the district of Sale, an enlargement of the Church is expe[diant] and desirable”.

2 “That this church should be enlarged by carrying out the south wall of the nave, the end wall of the south transept, and by extending the Gallery”.

The Rev. JJ Cort promised £500 towards the enlargement, and a Building Committee was constituted.

5th October 1863 Vestry Meeting

“... for consideration of proposed plan of enlarging the Church ...”.

Proposal:

“That this meeting rescinds the second resolution of the Vestry of 10 September and approves of the plan of only carrying out the south wall of the nave as far as the transept and extending the Gallery”.

29th March 1864 Vestry Meeting

Vicar’s Warden: Mr George V Ryder.
Renters’ Warden: Mr Occleston.

18th April 1865 Vestry Meeting

Vicar’s Warden: Mr Butterfield.
Renters’ Warden: Mr JJ Occleston.

“A vote of thanks was moved ... to the members of the voluntary choir with a request that the Choir Master confine himself to simple church music”.

“Proposed ... that Mr Dewsburys salary for collecting the pew rent to be advanced from £8 to £12 per annum from this date”.

3rd April 1866 Vestry Meeting

Vicar’s Warden Mr Butterfield.
Renters’ Warden: Mr JW Yates.

“It was proposed ... that the rate on the pews for the necessary expenses be the same for the ensuing as the one paid during the last year. An amendment was then proposed ... that the rate for the ensuing year be only one half what it was last year, which amendment was carried”.

11th May 1866 Vestry Meeting

[Note: No note is made of the election of the various Officers.]

“Mr Yates introduced the subject of ventilation and submitted plans and estimates and the referred to meeting the selection and also the means of raising money for the expenses of the same”.

Discussion ensued and, “... the plan patented by Mr Watson of Halifax, which was unanimously approved”.

Captain Watkin proposed:

“That it is desirable to ventilate and cleanse the church and the pews and that the same be done forthwith under the direction of the churchwardens, and for this purpose a special rate of 6d on the 7/- sittings and 1/- on the 14/- and 24/-, be now laid for the current year”. Carried unanimously.

20th May 1867 Vestry Meeting

Vicar’s Warden: Mr RB Lee.
Renters’ Warden: Mr T Clegg.

There was an objection that, “... three days “clear” had not elapsed since the notice calling the meeting was posted on the church door but the objection was overruled”.

“Moved.... that 4/- and 2/- rate for the year be laid on the seats to be collected quarterly”.

“Moved ... that a vote of thanks be given to the choir for their efficient services and specially to Mr Edward Butterfield for his kind attention ...”.
