Flanders Cross

In 1934 the British Legion asked that a memorial should be erected in the nature of a “wooden cross taken from the grave of an unknown British soldier in Flanders”. This was duly placed over the doorway on the east wall of the Chancel (the Wardens' Vestry) and started a long association with the British Legion; who for many years held an annual service of re-commemoration on Palm Sunday afternoon, when the words,

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old ... at the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them”

were said by all.

Flanders Cross - Dedication

The Dedication of the Flanders Cross took place on 25th March 1934 at 3 pm.
